Congratulations, Levern!

Four-time All-American and St Lucia National Record holder, Levern Donaline Spencer was the proud recipient of a diploma from the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia last week. Levern, 24 years old, received her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science during a commencement ceremony at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Bachelor of Science degree provides a strong foundation in Computer Science theory and practice, plus a wide-ranging liberal arts education. According to the University of Georgia website, BS graduates in Computer Science pursue careers in software development, systems administration, consulting, or project management.

Originally from Babonneau, Levern began her outstanding student athlete career at Entrepot Secondary. She won numerous accolades during her time at that school, including CARIFTA High Jump titles and a bronze medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships. That level of accomplishment initially earned Levern a scholarship to Albany State University.

During her time at Albany, Levern enjoyed a great deal of success. She broke the school's High Jump record as well as the NCAA Division II record with a mark of 1.93m and was named ASU Athlete of the Year.

The lithe 5'9" athlete had a solid career in Athens. Working with head coach Wayne Norton, she was a three-time Southeastern Conference High Jump champion, finishing third indoors in 2007, and a quadruple All-American, including a second-place finish in the 2007 NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships and third place outdoors.

She also continued to represent St Lucia with distinction, adding the North, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 and senior titles to her accolades. In 2007, Levern broke her own school record and National Record with a leap of 1.94m in making the final of her event at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan.

Levern was one of three St Lucian track and field athletes for qualify for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. During the 2009 season she will continue working with coach Norton in the hopes of representing St Lucia at meets including the Caribbean Games and IAAF World Championships in Athletics.
