Saint Lucia Volleyball in Grenada for Worlds Qualifying



Team Saint Lucia is off to the first round of qualifying for the 2014 FIVB Women's World Championship Tournament this morning. The ladies will contest Group B which will be played in Grenada.   The other participating teams in the group include St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Eustatius. The winning team after this weekend's competition will advance to Round 2 in 2013.

Gifta Dujon-Francois is captain of the national selection. Gifta recently showed her form in the commercial house tournament, where was adjudicated the most valuable female player. Some of her more experienced teammates include veterans Samantha Mann (pictured above) and Dania Hamilton, who studies and plays in Barbados, Sadia Baptiste and Indira Laurencin, who is based in the United States, Tramaine Edward and Susie Sylvester. Dujon-Francois, Mann and Hamilton are all former players of the year. Amongst the younger players named to the side are Kashima Noel and Utilla Prospere. One of the island's top defensive players, libero Sancha Isidore, has been left out, along with her sister Skyla. There is also no room for Natalie Edward and former junior player of the year, Emma Edgar.

Saint Lucia will be coached by Florian Combie, with Jean Morille travelling as Team Manager. Two other Saint Lucians will be in Grenada for the tournament, Brian Louisy as Tournament Supervisor and Shane Roachford as Volleyball Information System Supervisor.
