OECS Half Marathon 2011 - Zeph Conquers Again

CASTRIES, St. Lucia (October 30th, 2011) - - Saint Lucian long distance runner Zepherinus Joseph is the 2011 OECS Half Marathon champion.

Running on what was a hot final Sunday afternoon in October – Joseph won the race that was held in the Spice Isle, Grenada.

Technically this is Joseph’s 8th OECS Half Marathon title since last year when the race was combined with a local race in the British Virgin Islands he was the first OECS runner to cross the finish line in a contest that was won by American Michael Aish.

Not one for technicalities however – Joseph says this is his 7th OECS title.

“My time wasn’t too fast due to the extreme heat,” Joseph said. “But I’m happy I was able to bring the title home.”

Joseph was flying the Saint Lucian flag along with young Winsbert Sylvester who came in 5th in what is only his second race outside of Saint Lucia this year.

Grenadian Sherwin Paul came in second followed by Lionel Danrage of Guyana. Ten time OECS half marathon champion Pamenos Ballantyne of Saint Vincent was fourth.

“I still have some work to do for my upcoming races but this result proves that I’m heading in the right direction,” says Joseph.

Up next for the undeniable King of the regional road is a 10K in Guadeloupe on November 5th.
