Scheper, Alcide Make NCAA's
On Monday night, the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Committee released the accepted entries list for the 2012 NCAA Championships to be contested this weekend, 9-10 March at the Jacksons Track on the Idaho Centre in Nampa, Idaho. Two Saint Lucians are down to compete for their respective schools this weekend.
University of Arkansas' Makeba Alcide will contest the Pentathlon. A junior, Makeba has been steadily climbing the Arkansas all-time charts - she currently sits in fourth place with a best score of 3,997, though she scored 4,126 on an oversized track in winning the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title. She is also fourth overall coming into the NCAA meet with that score of 4,126.
Sophomore Jeannelle Scheper will represent South Carolina. She earned her first career NCAA bid in the High Jump with the eighth-best mark in the country. Her mark of 6'0 (1.83m) is a South Carolina program record, and the 17-year old became just the second Gamecock woman to medal in the high jump at any SEC Championship - indoor or outdoor - with her bronze medal finish two weeks ago.
Also appearing on the NCAA lists, Missouri State freshman Merica Moncherry is in the top 100 for the 200m dash. Her converted time of 24.08 seconds at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships places her 88th overall.
