In what was a rescheduled rained out game, Gros Islet Door Deals played Babonneau Dynasty in our first overtime game of the tournament at the Vigie Sports Complex in the Rooster Select Men’s National Basketball Tournament. A seesaw battle through regulation had to be settled in extra time between two equally deserving teams. Gros Islet led by 2 points in regulation with 42 secs to go but was not rewarded with playing good defense when a blocked shot attempt fell into the hands of Marlon Alexander from Babonneau for a simple layup with 6 seconds to go in the fourth quarter to force overtime. In extra time, fatigue played a part in the Dynasty pulling away from Gros Islet Door Deals to record their second victory of the tournament 80-72.
It was an all-round game from Babonneau Dynasty led by captain Leonard (Nasty) Emmanuel who came close to registering a triple double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Johnson Mondesir also contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Dynasty.
For Gros Islet Door Deals, again it was Rawlstan Mitchel who led all scorers with 25 points and 8 rebounds. The SLBF Player of the Game was Leonard (Nasty) Emmanuel with his 14 Points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 Steals, to lead his team to victory in OT.
Two games continue on Thursday March 29th, 2012 at the Vigie Complex at 7pm with VBCC Warlords vs. Southern Warriors and at Gros Islet, Combined Schools vs. Babonneau Dynasty also at 7pm.
