MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's men's tennis team locked up a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference tournament with a 5-2 victory against visiting Murray State Saturday.
The Eagles moved to 10-9 overall and 3-4 in the league, while the Racers fell to 5-12 overall and 3-5 in the OVC.
Morehead State won seven of the nine contested matches, including all three doubles battles. Justin Harlow and Hugo Almonte teamed up to beat Daniel Heibel and Arthur Valle 8-5 on court one. Roger White and Saint Lucian freshman Kevin Deligny edged Tyler Jeffers and Jose Berardo 9-8 in a tiebreaker match, and Nathan Martin and Nathan Blum got past Aleks Mitric and Max McLean 8-4 on court three.
David Clifford (number two), Martin (number three), Deligny (number four) and White (number five) won their singles matches in straight sets. Valle defeated Harlow at number one, and Almonte was forced to retire on court six trailing in the second set.
