Hunter Wins Twice at Trinity
SAN ANTONIO, TX - MARCH 30, 2012: — The University of Texas at San Antonio posted 10 victories at Friday's Trinity University Tiger Relays Track & Field Meet at EM Stevens Stadium on the campus of Trinity University.
Leading the way was the 400-meter relay quartet of freshmen Shahira Ehiemua and Chiugo Okonkwo and sophomores Krystal Wynn and Jhorden Hunter, which peeled off the third-best performance in program history in winning the event. The foursome passed the baton around the Trinity University Track & Field Complex oval in 45.63 and that ranks as the top time in the Southland Conference this season.
Hunter also won individual gold for the Roadrunners. She stopped the clock in the 100m in 11.82 seconds, with a wind of 1.2 metres per second, beating unattached athlete Martin Cloutier-LeBlanc (11.86) and UTSA teammate Wynn (11.94) in her outdoor season debut. In the 200m, Ehiemua had a personal-best 24.76 to win; Hunter's 25.38 left her in fourth place.
Hunter's best time in the 100m came at the beginning of the 2012 season, when she was timed in 11.60 seconds at the Trinity Alumni Classic, her season opener.
Jeannelle Scheper competed for South Carolina at the Best Western / University of North Florida Invitational at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, site of the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary championships. Heading over to represent Saint Lucia in Hamilton, Bermuda next weekend at the LIME CARIFTA Games, Jeannelle won the women's High Jump at 1.77m (5'9 ¾), beating the second-place finisher by two inches.
In Fayetteville, the Missouri State women's squad had a fine day at the Arkansas Spring Invitational at John McDonnell Field. The Bears’ 4x100-meter relay squad, with Saint Lucians Pernell Joseph and Merica Moncherry, placed second with a time of 45.66 seconds. Pernell ran 11.74 with a 2.6 m/s wind to place third in the 100m, Merica ran 11.86 for sixth. Pernell's 23.92 was good for seventh in the 300m, whilst Merica ran 24.00 for ninth.
At the University of Richmond's Fred Hardy Invitational on the Fred Hardy Track at Robins Stadium in Virginia, Danai Lendor ran 1:02.00 for third place in the 400m Hurdles. Danai is a senior at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
