Scheper to Compete at NCAA East Regional

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Seven of her fellow Sant Lucian collegiate student athletes will be competing in Austin, Texas, this weekend. But it looks as if Jeannelle Scheper will be the only competitor from Fair Helen at the NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships, May 24-26 at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus in Jacksonville, Florida.

The University of South Carolina women's team qualified 12 athletes, including 18-year-old Scheper, who will contest the women's High Jump. She is one of four sophomores to make the Gamecocks women's team to the qualifiers, as one of the top 48 performers in her event. Nationally, Jeannelle is ranked 10th with a best height of 1.83m, a school record. She is ranked fifth regionally.

The top 12 finishers in an event at each regional preliminary will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships that will be held June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

  2. Qualifying stanadards for Rio won't be out until 2015. And 1.92m would be the B standard for global competition at present. In any case, the full story on Jeannelle's 1.91 is here: http://terryfinisterre.blogspot.com/2013/02/scheper-sets-new-national-junior-record.html
