Sharks Dominate Capri-Sun National Swim Champs

After three days of intense competition at the Capri-Sun Short Course National Swim Championship, the results are in! The meet was used as a trial for selection to Team Saint Lucia at the 26th Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Swimming Championship, 10-13 November in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Held under the auspices of the Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association, the meet was hosted by the Sea Jays Swim Club.

In the 8 and Under Boys, Therron Herelle of Racers beat Antoine Destang of Sharks, and Karic Charles of Lightning Aquatics. In the girls division, Jasmine Stiede won for Sharks, ahead of teammate Zoe Barnard, and Anneliese Gillard of Lightning Aquatics.

Herelle broke the 100m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley records in this age group. Charles broke the 25m Breaststroke record, and Destang the 25m Butterfly.

D’Andre Blanchard won the 9-10 category for Sea Jays, with the Racers duo of Nathan Vigier and Brandon Eugene in second and third. Naima Hazell was girls champion for Lightning, followed by Jorja Mederick of Racers, and Naekeisha Louis of Lightning.

Blanchard broke the 50m Breaststroke record.

The 11-12 Boys winner was Allandre Cross, leading a Sharks sweep that included Ziv Reynolds and Jakob Harrison. Mikaili Charlemagne won the girls title for Sharks, with Shalini Joseph second for Sports Academy, and Natalya Guillaume third for Sharks.

The host team had their best results in the 13-14 Boys, the experienced Terrel Monplaisir, Jayhan Odlum Smith and Jamar Archibald in the top three spots. The fabulous Katie Kyle won for Sharks, ahead of teammate Eden Crick and the Sea Jays duo of Mya Peter and Veronica Brown.

Kyle lowered the 200m Freestyle record, whilst Devin Boodha lowered the 50m Breaststroke mark.

In the 15-17 age group, Omar Alexander and Nicolas McLennon were first and second for Racers, with Sea Jays' Dristan Mauricette third. Mikaela Casimir won for Sharks over Abigail Brown of Sea Jays. In the 18 and Over Jonathan McLennon of Racers beat David Mayers of Sharks, whilst Vernesa Eugene of Sharks won the women.


Sharks won the meet with 1283 points, followed by Sea Jays on 807, Racers 685, Lightning 559, Sports Academy 188, Southern Flying Fish 173, and Romain Roosevelt Aquatic Swim Club 2.
