St Lucia's Edwards Wins UK High Jump

Darvin Edwards got his 2011 indoor track and field season underway with a win at the South of England Athletics Association Championships on Saturday 15 January. The 24-year-old St Lucian, representing Belgrave Harriers, had competed just once in the past 18 months, but he has been training consistently with the goal of improving his 2.25m National Record, established in 2008.

Darvin won against against a relatively weak field, clearing 2.20m, but his nearest rival on this occasion - 19-year-old Chris Baker - got no closer than 10 centimetres, a career-best mark. It was a disappointing effort for the former CARIFTA champion, but one he will be eager to build on as he aims to conquer greater heights and get amongst the world's leading jumpers.
