Beaubrun Helps Lead FGCU to Another Conference Win

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Florida Gulf Coast University swimming & diving team used 11 first-place finishes to pick up its 21st-straight win in Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association meets by defeating Georgia Southern, 180-115, on Saturday in a dual meet at the RAC in Statesboro, Georgia.

The Eagles improve to 10-2 with a perfect 4-0 record in conference. FGCU hasn’t lost a conference meet in four years.

FGCU began the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.32. Led by Saint Lucian junior Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort/The Bolles School), the FGCU team also included freshman Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan), junior Shannon Blizzard (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) and senior Victoria Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College). Together, they finished five seconds ahead of second place.

Beaubrun, who last year became the first swimmer from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States to qualify for the Olympic Games, also earned an individual win. She took first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.92, while classmate Regina Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico/The Bolles School) touched in fourth at 1:08.00.
