2 PB's, 3 Medals for Merica at MVC

Missouri State track and field dominated the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, earning a title-winning 132 points at the UNI Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The Bears had nine athletes earn all-MVC honors in eight different events, including Merica Moncherry of Ti Rocher, Micoud.

"I'm not surprised at all," said director of track and field and cross country Ron Boyce, "It took an overall team effort to do this, and I'm really proud of them. There's no better feeling."

The Bears' sprint group annihilated the 60m dash as Ekate Lymon won the event with a personal best 7.52, and Saint Lucian freshman Moncherry finished third with a personal best 7.54. Just 24 hours prior, that would have been a Saint Lucia National Record, except that sophomore Pernell Joseph had run 7.51 in the preliminaries. Pernell ran 7.63 for end sixth in the final, so four of the five fastest Saint Lucian women's 60m times ever come from Missouri State.

Shantel Llewellyn won the 200m dash finals with a personal best time of 24.53, whilst former CARIFTA medallist and Micoud Secondary alumnus Moncherry finished third in 24.58, again a personal-best mark. Althia Maximilien (24.67) and Pernell Joseph (25.10) finished fourth and eighth, respectively. Maximilien also finished second in the 400m dash finals with a personal best time of 54.63.

The Bears 4x400m relay team added a third place finish with a time of 3:45.52. The relay squad consisted of Kara Graham, Moncherry, Llewellyn, and Maximilien.
