For the first time this season, forward/centre Aloysius Henry has led his University of North Carolina Greensboro basketball team in rebounds in consecutive games, back-to-back road wins over the Samford Bulldogs and the Chattanooga Mocs. Playing Thursday and Saturday in Alabama and Tennessee, the 6'10" 240lb senior pulled down seven and 11 boards, respectively, as the Spartans extended their win streak to two. They have won nine out of the last 10.
On the season, Aloysius is only the team's fifth-best rebounder, but along with his recent efficient offensive play, he has been much more aggressive lately. He has led the team in rebounding six times this season, but four of those came in the last 13 games. In the last two narrow Southern Conference victories over Samford (71-69) and Chattanooga (77-76), Aloysius has scored seven and nine points, but has gone to the free throw line 10 times, converting eight.
A graduate of Bocage Secondary School, Maine Central Institute and Three Rivers Community College, Aloysius is in his senior year at UNCG. After a tough junior season in 2011, he is hitting his stride just as the team is finding its winning formula. The consecutive conference road wins give the Spartans (11-15 overall, 9-5 in the Southern Conference) a one-game lead over Elon in the North Division with four games remaining.
