Sunday, 16 June is officially winner-takes-all, as the 2012 Rooster Select Saint Lucia Men's National Basketball League comes to a head with a championship decider between Canaries Moon River Champs and defending champions, Courts Jets.
Game 2 of both the 3rd place and championship series tipped off this past Saturday at the Beausejour Gymnasium. VBCC Warriors came in up 1-0 on Gardens in the third place battle. Canaries were up 1-0 on Jets in the title tilt.
In the first game of the night, Gardens competed throughout but still came up short to a dominant and determined VBCC team, winning 57-46, led by Marcian Calderon with 19 points and 14 rebounds. The Warriors clinched third place in this year's tournament. For Gardens, Mervin Augustin led with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
In the championship series, Canaries were looking to sweep Jets and win their first ever National title. Early on that looked likely, but the organized and focused Jets stepped up their defensive intensity in the second quarter and put the victory beyond doubt squaring the best of 3 series 1-1 with a 57-39 double digit win.
For Courts Jets, Ron Dumurville (above) led the way for them with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Durocher Antoine had a sub-par outing, but still topscored for Canaries with 10 points and 4 rebs.
The three game series is now tied 1-1 and will be decided with its final game on Saturday 16 June at 6pm at Beausejour Gymnasium. A trophy presentation and individual awards ceremony will follow after the game.
