Varadero, Cuba, June 9, 2012. – The Saint Lucian duo of Joseph Clercin and Julian Bissette joined two teams from Cuba and one from Canada in the semifinal round of the North and Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) men's beach volleyball competition Stage VI this past weekend, in front of record crowds at the Varadero venue.
In the semis, Karel Piña and Sergio Gonzalez - Cuba's number one team - beat Nicholas Del Bianco and Benjamin Chow of Canada-1 (21-12, 22-20). Cuba's B team of Yaismel Borrell and Yadrián Escobar beat Bissette and Clercent 21-11 and 21-16 to advance to the title game, where they lost to Piña and Gonzalez.
Meanwhile, Saint Lucia made the semis by playing unbeaten, defeating French St Martin 21-11, 17-21, 15-11, the Canada B team 21-18, 15-21, 15-12 and Costa Rica B, 21-16, 21-16. After succumbing to Cuba B, though, they found Canada A a tougher proposition, losing 21-12, 21-12 to Del Bianco and Chow.
